Allow the child to choose: Letting the child choose the colour of the school bag, having a pencil box of choice will motivate him/her to look forward to go to school.
Plan ahead for the week: Discuss with the child and create a visual schedule on a board to keep the whole family informed about the events the week ahead has in store.
Healthy ‘eat & sleep’ routine: A well-rested child is less irritable, cranky, and better able to respond to stressful situations in a balanced, calm manner. Nutrition is also important. Sugar, caffeine and food colouring can increase anxiety and should be limited. Good balanced breakfast with protein can help your child start the day calmly.
Positive Affirmations: In this world that is filled with stress, we need to show our children how to manage and cope with stress. Let them see you taking a few minutes to sit still and concentrate on your breathing. Children imitate what they see and slowly they will develop an inclination towards ‘calm time’. Say affirmations together with the child that this year is going to be a great year and each day will be filled with commitment, enthusiasm and positive energy.
