Anamika Nair interned with ParentEdge for the January-February 2016 issue. In this blog, she shares her experience as an intern.
I love writing because I can rant about absolutely anything. However, working with a magazine and writing articles with a professional touch is something else altogether and it posed a huge challenge for me.
I began my internship in April 2015 and over the span of six months I completed four extremely diverse articles. I started off fumbling around, trying to get everything right but soon was on track thanks to enormous amount of help and advice extended by the Editor of ParentEdge.
It was a thrilling experience, having to interview students, parents, teachers and even counselors to get the most accurate and in depth information about a particular topic. I worked exactly like a journalist, collecting information from various sources and then condensing them into helpful and engaging articles for parents. The lessons that I picked up during this internship will stay with me as long as I write.
E. L. Doctorow said, “Writing is an exploration. You start from nothing and learn as you go.” This quote sums up my experience with Parentedge. I was pushed to come out of my comfort zone and embrace a more pragmatic approach of writing.
An opportunity to write articles and see them printed in a leading magazine comes once in a lifetime and for that I will be forever grateful to Parentedge
