Measles Rubella (MR) Revaccinations – What You Should Know

Common side effects
Side effects following MR vaccine include mild fever, rash and light swelling and pain at the injection site within 24 hours of taking the shot. About 7-12 days after vaccination around 5% of recipients may experience fever for one or two days. The fever may occasionally (for 1 in 3000 instances) induce febrile fits in those with a propensity to seizures. Transient rash may occur in about 2% of vaccinated children. Joint pain may occur in adolescents.

Beware of fake alerts

I have come across fake alerts, texts and audio clips, claiming that the vaccine is banned in the United States for causing serious side effects, including damaging a child’s immunity and memory. There are also allegations that this vaccine is being pushed in India by the global pharmaceutical industry looking for a market to dump their products. This is untrue. This vaccine is manufactured by the Serum Institute of India. In the 1990s, South and Central America began conducting campaigns, vaccinating all young people between 9 months and 15 years to rapidly interrupt the spread of the measles and they achieved measles elimination in the Western Hemisphere by 2002, and the elimination of indigenous rubella in 2009.
So we must support this initiative by the goverment to elimate measles and rubella from our country.
