Children and the Outdoors

Choosing an outbound programme organiser
The first step is to research the club/ organiser – the equipment they use, experience of the facilitators, the processes and methods. You should also get feedback from parents of children who have attended the camps – there are nuances that are not captured in the testimonials on websites! (For example, are challenges presented as morale boosters, without adversely affecting the child’s self esteem?) Check the age group of the participants and the activities that the camp is offering, and make sure they are suitable for your child. Treks and expeditions organised by the Youth Hostel Association of India (YHAI)draw a cross section of people – these may be good for older teens comfortable with mingling with young adults and adults of all ages.
