Nachos with Salsa

Nachos with Salsa is a favourite with children around the world. Unfortunately, ready-to-eat tortilla chips are not easily available in India, and you have to make them yourself if you want to satisfy a nacho craving. This substitute may not be quite the same as the original, but it’s quick, fuss-free and absolutely delicious.

What you need:

  • Khakras
  • Salsa (Either bought or homemade, recipe given below this one)
  • Grated cheese
  • Green chillies (Optional )

What to do:

  1. Break each khakra into 6-8 pieces.
  2. Arrange the pieces in a large microwave-safe plate.
  3. Top with salsa and grated cheese.
  4. If you wish to, you can add some chopped green chilies.
  5. Microwave for 15 seconds.
  6. Serve!

Recipe for Salsa (4 servings)

What you need:

  • 2 spring onions, finely sliced
  • 4 tomatoes, (about 650g), seeds removed, finely diced
  • 3 capsicums (preferably one each of yellow, red and green), seeds removed, finely diced
  • A teaspoon of freshly chopped coriander
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) olive oil
  • Juice of 1 lime

What to do:

  1. Combine the spring onions, tomatoes, capsicums, olive oil and lime juice.
  2. Season with salt, pepper and coriander leaves.
  3. Remember to refrigerate any leftovers.
  4. Salsa can be stored in this way for up to a week, but is best had fresh.


  • Use whole wheat khakra for a healthier variant of this recipe.
  • Ready-made salsa is available in most supermarkets.
  • For an interesting twist, serve khakra pieces with refrigerated salsa.
